Three work friends and I have been doing our own version of Come Dine with Me for a couple of years now (for readers not in the UK this is a cult TV programme where diners cook for each other and then score each other to get a winner) We each do a three course meal, score in secret and reveal at the very end. It’s just good fun and an excuse to get together, eat and drink lots of wine.
The first time round we had no theme, the second time we picked cuisines out of a hat. This time we have done movie themes. Already we have enjoyed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Pulp Fiction. As you can see I have chosen The Godfather, using the theme loosely to do an Italian-style meal. No horses heads! (Click on the image to see the menu full size)
I find the trick is always to keep it simple and choose meals you can make mostly in advance and then warm up on the night because it is all about having a good time and spending time with your guests. I hope this one goes down well. I’ve got my work cut out on Saturday – I’m going to be cooking and preparing all day. Pleasing two journalists and a photographer is no mean feat!
