It’s that time again when we all make our New Year’s resolutions. Will you allow me to make three? I hope mine will be enjoyable and achievable – unusual for resolutions I know (lose weight, go to the gym, walk more etc – yeah right).
First off is to write on my blog more – definitely enjoyable and hopefully achievable. As you might have noticed I haven’t done well at this over the last few months and my excuse I hope is reasonable. I have just moved into my first house. And it isn’t the kind of move in and relax place, it is the kind that needs lots of work – and work I have done, believe me.
This leads me on to my second resolution nicely, which is to start growing my own food, or, to put more romantically – create an edible garden….yum.
Yes, my house has a generous sized garden crying out for a vegetable plot and this is my project of the year. I am brimming with enthusiasm for it, but also acutely aware that I am prone to fads and often lose interest when things don’t go right – to be clear I am impatient, not the best attribute for a gardener.
But my desire to grow, I am hoping, will win through. I also have family on my side. My parents are great vegetable gardeners. Last year they even managed to grow passion fruits on their shed roof in East Anglia! So knowledge is just a phone call away.
I welcome any handy hints and words of advice from seasoned growers or moral support from those giving it a go as well just leave a coment on the post.
Lastly and back on to the theme of cooking I pledge to try more new recipes. I counted 37 food books on my shelf today and bearing in mind I’m 23 that’s quite a collection. Many of them I still haven’t tried a single recipe from. Although I don’t use recipe books exclusively to copy dishes, I like them to give me inspiration and starting points, it is good to try out real chef’s recipes every now and then to push the boundaries. I hope to do that and share it with you.
To help me with my blogging and cooking I bought the most beautiful notepad I’ve ever seen from Paperchase the other day – cute isn’t it?! If this won’t coax me into working hard I don’t know what will. What’s your New Year’s resolution?
